A yacht day in Miami usually means music, a sandbar and a long lunch. A wellness experience at sea is a different format: quieter, slower, built around rest, movement and real conversation, with the bay as the setting. We design these in Miami for private groups, residential clubs, hotels and brands, as part of Senda Experience. This page explains how they work and what we have learned producing them.

The format at a glance

  • Duration: 3 to 4 hours, usually a morning.
  • Group: 8 to 12 guests for a premium format.
  • Where: calm anchorages in Biscayne Bay, departing from Coconut Grove or Miami Beach.
  • What happens on board: breathwork and meditation, massage and self-care treatments, a sound session with the engines off, time in the water, and a light chef-prepared brunch.
  • Who it is for: private celebrations, members’ and residents’ calendars, VIP guests of hotels, brand activations and small executive groups.

What we did: Self-Care on the Ocean

Private yacht on Biscayne Bay during Senda’s Self-Care on the Ocean wellness retreat, Miami
Self-Care on the Ocean, Biscayne Bay, September 2025.

In September 2025 we hosted Self-Care on the Ocean: a four-hour wellness retreat aboard a private yacht departing from Coconut Grove, for twelve invited guests from Miami’s wellness and entrepreneurial community. The morning moved from arrival rituals to massage and aromatherapy, then breathwork, meditation and journaling, a sound session, time in the water, and an organic brunch at anchor.

Sun-care brand Carroten joined as a partner. Its products were part of the self-care ritual on board, with a dedicated brand corner, and we delivered edited video and photography of the products in use. That is the kind of brand integration that works at sea: the product becomes part of the experience instead of a banner on it.

“The content is great! We truly appreciate your partnership and the effort you’ve put into creating such a meaningful experience.”

— Mackenzie Ferguson, Senior Marketing Coordinator, SAYN Beauty (Carroten)

One thing the day taught us: the sky stayed overcast. The retreat itself did not suffer, but sun-care content needs sun, so we shot the remaining product footage on a clear day afterwards. Since then, when a brand needs specific images, we agree the shot list in advance and keep a weather window for the content, separate from the experience itself.

How to plan one well

Choose calm water before you choose the boat

Massage, sound and meditation need a stable deck and a quiet engine. That means a protected anchorage inside Biscayne Bay rather than open ocean. Ask the captain to anchor early and keep the generator as quiet as possible during the mindful parts of the program.

Go in the morning

Mornings on the bay are calmer, cooler and brighter, and in summer South Florida’s afternoon thunderstorms build quickly. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, so between those months keep a backup date. The most comfortable stretch is roughly November to May.

Size the group to the experience, not to the boat

Eight to twelve guests lets every person receive real attention from therapists and facilitators. Just as important: confirm in writing that the vessel is legally allowed to carry your group for hire. In the United States, a vessel carrying more than six paying passengers generally needs a Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection, and the Coast Guard actively enforces against illegal charters in Miami. A serious operator will show you the documents without hesitation.

Give the morning an arc

  1. Arrival: welcome infusion, cold towels and a short intention-setting moment as the boat leaves the marina.
  2. Settling: breathwork and meditation once anchored.
  3. Self-care: rotating treatments while other guests swim, paddle or journal.
  4. Sound: a sound session with the engines off.
  5. Nourishment: a light brunch and slow conversation on the way back.

Keep the food light and the details sensorial

Heavy meals and alcohol work against the format. Fresh fruit, light bowls, wellness shots, coconut water and herbal infusions work better. Guests remember the details: a facial mist after the swim, lavender towels, mineral sunscreen within reach, a playlist built for the hour, something small to take home.

Bring specialists who can work on a boat

Licensed massage therapists comfortable on deck, an experienced breathwork or meditation facilitator, and a sound practitioner who knows how to adapt to wind. Brief them on the yacht’s layout beforehand so treatment areas are set before guests board.

Capture it without breaking it

For brands and properties, content is part of the value. Agree in advance what will be photographed, when and with whose consent, and keep cameras out of the quiet moments.

For hotels, residential clubs and brands

  • Residential clubs and branded residences: a members-only wellness morning as part of the lifestyle calendar.
  • Luxury hotels: a signature experience for VIP guests, or a seasonal program offered through the concierge.
  • Wellness and beauty brands: product integrated into the ritual, an invited audience and agreed content deliverables.
  • Companies: a small executive format focused on presence and recovery instead of another dinner.

Questions to ask before you plan one

What is a yacht wellness experience?

A private half-day on a yacht designed around rest and self-care rather than a party: breathwork, massage, a sound session, swimming and a light meal, usually at anchor in calm water.

How long does it last?

Three to four hours works for most groups. Longer formats are possible for retreats with a longer route.

How many guests can join?

We recommend eight to twelve for a premium format. The legal maximum depends on the vessel and its certification, so it should always be confirmed with the operator.

When is the best time of year in Miami?

November to May offers the calmest, most comfortable conditions. In summer, early departures and a backup date make it work.

Where do you depart from?

Coconut Grove and Miami Beach are the most practical starting points for calm anchorages in Biscayne Bay.

Can a brand partner on an experience like this?

Yes. The strongest partnerships integrate the product into the experience itself, for example a sun-care ritual after the swim, and include agreed photo and video deliverables.
